Rolling Stone Column Reveals Disturbing Rape Culture At UVA, Phi Psi House Attacked In Protest
A disturbing article recalling an alleged rape at the beginning of the 2012 school year was released Wednesday by Rolling Stone. The article detailed an incident that occurred in the University of Virginia’s Phi Kappa Psi house during a party.
The victim, Jackie, claims to have been gang-raped by several Phi Psi members and pledges.
From Rolling Stone:
Jackie was just starting her freshman year at the University of Virginia when she was brutally assaulted by seven men at a frat party. When she tried to hold them accountable, a whole new kind of abuse began.
The column describes the adversity she faced following the attack, along with pressure from friends and, seemingly, UVA to stay quiet and avoid making the situation public. Obviously, Jackie’s story didn’t sit well with some people, and the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity has been under siege since the story’s release.
Early this morning, the vandalism began, as “protestors” threw cinderblocks through the Phi Psi house’s windows. They followed their destruction with several spray-painted messages around the walls of the house.

The vandalism has caused the university to station police officers outside of the house to deter any further defacement of the house.
The national fraternity issued a press release on Facebook Wednesday that stated it is aware of the situation and is investigating all allegations. The Facebook post triggered a string of illogical, generalized rants against the fraternity.
Earlier today, the UVA chapter voluntarily suspended its Fraternal Organization Agreement, and it will cease all activities for the time being.

I don’t know if it’s just me or not, but UVA Greek life seems to always be in the damn news. Cool your jets, guys.
9 years ago at 4:51 pmIts sad that this article is considered journalism. There is so much obvious bias clotting this piece it takes away from the true goal: ending rape and sexual assault.
9 years ago at 5:05 pmThe only goal of this article was to demonize all-male organizations.
9 years ago at 11:27 amWhether or not this story is slightly fabricated, the author is the only one to blame for the vandalism of the house and the death threats. Rather than using factual evidence and actual reports, even from this Jackie girl’s “friends” who could have corroborated the story, she creates hysteria through emotional journalism meant to provoke a negative response. These Rolling Stone journalists heavily assisted in the end of pledging for SAE with their Dartmouth story, now this comes along and will definitely deal a blow to Phi Psi. I never will condone rape or sexual assault in any circumstance, and if these allegations are true than these guys deserve the book thrown at them, but it’s media “reports” like this that make everything we as Greeks do to fight these stereotypes seem useless and impossible.
9 years ago at 5:09 pmThe details of her story were extremely graphic and disturbing… If they really did that to her (and multiple other girls), their chapter needs the boot ASAP. Stories like this are exactly why us Greeks have our negative reputations.
9 years ago at 5:39 pmIf they’re guilty, they need to go. Rape is not cool and rapists in fraternities are the reason why we have a bad name. If they aren’t guilty then I think Rolling Stone is responsible to give a public apology and actually investigate a situation before opening their stupid, liberal mouths. I don’t know which way to go on this. It seems that this could be Rolling Stone stirring up shit just to stir up shit, but then again, what does this girl have to gain out of these allegations? I hope they are able to investigate this to the full extent of the law and that if Phi Psi members did rape this girl, the chapter will stand by its word and remove the fuckers from their chapter.
9 years ago at 5:55 pmI would also like to add that the girl has a very vivid recollection of this assault when this first sentence of the story mentions a spiked drink.
9 years ago at 6:00 pm-Vivid recollection despite “spiked” drink.
-Four weeks in and the actives “gang-raping” her are saying, “Do it man, we all did. Don’t you want to be a brother?”
-Nobody at a crowded party notice a beaten girl with one shoe and blood all over her.
-Three of her friends were worried about reputation of a girl that allegedly was beaten and raped instead of taking her to a hospital.
-Reported two years later.
-Three hours? According to my calculations: 7 men times 30 seconds each equals 3 and a half minutes. You can’t fool me.
Seems legit.
9 years ago at 6:33 pmI read the TL to read article and it was clear and well supported. I’m not a person that falls into these articles especially since it’s rolling stone but it was evident that there is a rape culture at that campus and it needs to get stopped. In my fraternity we worked with rape crisis counselors in our city and had to meet with victims. No family or person should ever have to go through that.
9 years ago at 6:47 pmRolling Stone put that coward who bombed the Boston marathon on their cover, so they can go fuck themselves.
9 years ago at 6:55 pmI read the full article last night and remember reading about the rape scene. They basically gang-raped her with 7 guys in what seemed to be a pledge-esque event because someone said “Do you want to be a brother?” That means that the one of those kids is probably at best a senior right now if he pledged his sophomore year. This chapter is fucking disgusting is this shit is true, and those involved should be expelled. It’s shit like this that gives the rest of us a bad name
9 years ago at 7:36 pm“If this shis true, those involved should be expelled.” Expelled will be the least of their worries. Tyrone in cell block D will have a nice new piece of ass.
9 years ago at 9:08 amI’m not condoning the allegations in anyway, shape, or form. However; Rolling Stone is nothing more than a group of shit stirrers whom look for the biggest paycheck to right a story. With that being said,
9 years ago at 9:54 pmhope it’s not true.
